Michaywe Pines History
A Two Time Host of the Men’s Michigan Amateur Championship and a Founding Member of the Gaylord Golf Mecca, the Michaywe Pines Course is Rich in Northern Michigan Golf History.
Opened in 1972, the Michaywé Pines Course features secluded fairways winding through beautiful white birch and pine forests along the AuSable River. With an excellent layout and conditions that compliment tournament golf, The Pines hosted the 1991 and 1996 Michigan Men’s Amateur Championship.
A major renovation was done in 2004 by Don Childs, the original designer. New tees, a new irrigation system, and refinements to the bunkers were completed to match the equipment changes that had occurred in the past 30 years. Tee boxes are carpeted with bent grass sod and each bunker is shouldered with Bluegrass and filled with high quality sand. The positioning of the bunkers allows for a wide approach area into most greens. As a result, The Pines Course is female friendly offering forward tee options while playing over 7000 yards from the tips for the “big hitters”.
As a continuing testament to the layout, the conditions, and the helpfulnes of the staff, the Golf Association of Michigan regularly selects Michaywe Pines for annual qualifiers and other events.
It is time for you to be part of our history.
